Window grants in Brussels: where do things stand in 2026?
Information verified on 12 August 2026
Short answer: Rénolution grants no longer exist for work invoiced in 2025 or 2026. But four mechanisms remain open, and three of them depend on no political decision at all. Here is what actually applies to replacing windows.
In short
No more Rénolution grant for a 2025 or 2026 invoice. What remains: 6% VAT instead of 21%, the reduced-rate ECORENO loan, grants from your municipality and the property tax reduction. The announced zero-rate loans are not expected before 2027.
What happened
Rénolution grants were halted at the end of 2024 for lack of budget. In February 2026 the Brussels government confirmed they would not return in their previous form: the regional deficit exceeds one billion euros and no longer allows a system of direct subsidies.
Payments still going out relate exclusively to files based on 2024 invoices. If your invoice is dated 2025 or 2026, no application is possible.
What has been announced
The Region is preparing a zero-rate loan scheme to replace the subsidies. A July 2026 agreement in principle mentions funding for 0% renovation credits and for new ’energy’ grants.
At the time of writing, neither the final amounts, nor the income conditions, nor the opening date are fixed. The scheme is not expected before 2027. We advise no one to postpone work counting on it.
What works today
6% VAT instead of 21%
On labour and materials invoiced by the contractor. On a window project this is by far the biggest saving — larger than the grant ever was.
Home older than ten years, privately occupied, work invoiced directly by a registered contractor.
Federal Finance ↗ECORENO loan
Reduced-rate loan from the Housing Fund, reopened on 2 January 2026. Rate of 1.5% to 2.5% depending on circumstances. Funds window replacement.
Income and housing conditions set by the Brussels Region Housing Fund.
Housing Fund ↗Municipal grants
Some of the 19 Brussels municipalities keep their own renovation support, independent of the Region. Amounts and conditions vary by municipality.
Check directly with your municipality’s planning or housing department.
Municipalities portal ↗Property tax reduction
Reduction of property tax linked to certain energy improvement works on the home.
Conditions set by Brussels Fiscality.

Can I still claim a Rénolution grant for my windows?
No, if your invoice is dated 2025 or 2026. Applications are no longer admissible. Only files based on 2024 invoices are still being processed.
Should I wait for the zero-rate loans before replacing my windows?
Zero-rate loans are not expected before 2027 and their conditions are not yet set. Meanwhile the 6% VAT already applies and is an immediate saving larger than the grant was.
Does the 6% VAT apply to window replacement?
Yes, for a privately occupied home older than ten years, when the work is invoiced directly by a registered contractor. It covers labour and the materials on the invoice.
Can the ECORENO loan fund windows?
Yes. The Housing Fund’s ECORENO loan covers energy renovation work, including window replacement, at a rate between 1.5% and 2.5% depending on the applicant’s situation.
Does my municipality still offer support?
It depends on the municipality. Municipal support is separate from regional grants and has not been scrapped everywhere. Check with your municipality’s housing or planning department.
A quote for your windows?
We measure on site, free of charge, and you receive a written quote with VAT correctly applied.
